The Academy of Saint Joseph, in Brentwood, New York, was a Catholic college-preparatory school for Kindergarten to Grade 12, single-sex for girls grades 9 - 12. The Academy was founded in 1856, by the Sisters of Saint Joseph. At the request of the Bishop of Brooklyn, Mother Austin Kean came from Philadelphia to Brooklyn to found what is now the Sisters of St. Joseph of Brentwood, New York. She was accompanied by Sister Baptista Hanson and Sister Theodosia Hegeman from Buffalo. It closed its doors in 2009, leaving behind an illustrious 153 year history of educating the youth of Brooklyn, Queens and Long Island. Situated on a campus, it was accredited by the New York State Board of Regents and by the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools and held full membership in the New York State Association of Independent Schools and the National Catholic Educational Association. It was operated independent of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Rockville Centre. The Academy of St. Joseph had been having financial problems for over a decade before its closure. ==St Joseph== Biblical character. He was a carpenter in Nazareth, and the husband of the Virgin Mary. He last appears in the Gospel history when Jesus is 12 years old. He is never mentioned during Jesus' ministry, and must be assumed to have already died. His feast day is 19 March. Joseph, engaged to a young girl from the village, finding her pregnant, tries to figure how to divorce her quietly, without exposing her shame-that is, without having Mary publicly stoned to death for the crime of adultery. And then comes a dream, a dream in which Joseph hears an angel telling him not to be afraid to take Mary into his home, that this child is different, that the father of this child is God, working through the Holy Spirit, and that this child is destined "to save people from their sins." And Joseph does what the angel has commanded him to do and takes the young woman into his home and becomes the child's father. 抄文引用元・出典: フリー百科事典『 ウィキペディア(Wikipedia)』 ■ウィキペディアで「Academy of Saint Joseph」の詳細全文を読む スポンサード リンク
